We share information that will allow you to detect gas leaks and breaks in the pipelines and know how to act in each situation.

How to recognize the warning signs of a gas pipeline leak?

If you see:
  • VDead or discolored plants in an otherwise healthy area of vegetation.
  • Bubbling in wet or flooded areas.
  • Blowing dirt around a pipeline area.
  • Flames appearing to burn above ground.

If you hear:
Roaring, whistling or hissing sounds.

What to do if you suspect a gas leak?

If you identify any of the typical signs mentioned above, or any other sign that makes you suspect a leak of gas, you should follow these steps:
  • Evacuate the area immediately by foot.
  • Avoid all possible sources of ignition (for example, motor vehicles, cell phones).
  • Go to a safe location.
  • From a safe location call immediately our emergency line 0800-333-2223 or any other emergency number you can remember.
  • Worn everybody to stay away from the site. In case of an emergency, our priority is to guarantee public safety, to minimize environmental damage and protect facilities. TGN will answer immediately any call to our free toll number.

Do you think you hit a gas pipeline?

Stop the activity. If you suspect you hit or damaged a gas pipeline, interrupt the activity immediately. Turn off any equipment and eliminate any ignition sources (lights, motor vehicles, cell phones, etc.).
Do not operate any tools that might generate sparks. Do not light cigarettes.

Evacuate the area. Notify everybody in the area to evacuate.

Evaluate the situation. From a safe distance try to determine the damage. Can you hear a gas leak? Is there fire? Is part of the pipeline sticking out? Can you see colored pieces of coating?

Call 0800-333-2223. Call our free line 0800-333-2223 or any other emergency number you can remember. Explain that you hit a gas pipeline and give details of your evaluation, inform if there are any injuries and the place where the incident happened. Our emergency number is on our markers along the pipelines.

State at a safe distance. Safety is our main concern. TGN personnel is trained to investigate and control any emergency. We have a qualified team to carry out repairs.

Do not try manelve valves. Many valves shut off automatically and stop gas flow. Other valves must be shut off manually by TGN skilled personnel.
